Swingfest Swingdown 2008 - Week 2 Update

Welcome to the second of thirty weekly updates that will be coming every Sunday until the completion of the Swingfest Swingdown 2008.  The Swingfest Swingdown is a motivational contest and tool that Mrs. Gentlenibbles and I, along with some of our readers, are participating in to help us get in the best shape of our adult lives for Swingfest on July 31, 2008!

The second week of any exercise and diet program is almost always the toughest.  You are usually sore from your first week, your initial motivation has lessened some, any yet you are still to new into the regime for it to be any easier.  To top all of that off your weight loss is usually smaller due to the fact all the pseudo-pounds (water weight) you lose the first week starts returning to normal as your body is adjusting.

With that realization we had a great week.  Neither Mrs. Gentlenibbbles or myself missed a required workout and both of us posted lower numbers for the week. 

Mr. Gentlenibbles 

Weight loss for the week- 2.5lbs
Total weight loss - 6.5lbs
Best mile time - 9:08 min

Exercise
Monday - Ran 1 mile, walked 1-1/2 mile, walked 1-1/4 mile, ran 3-1/4 miles alternating walking 3-1/4 miles
Tuesday - Lifted weights
Wednesday - Ran 3-1/2 miles alternating  walking 3-1/2 miles
Saturday - Ran 6-1/4 miles alternating walking 6 1/4 miles

I ran a test mile on Monday to gauge where my mile pace is at and have already taken over one minute off of my best time.  I ran a 9:05 min mile and later in the week ran 3 consecutive half miles all below that pace.  One of the half miles was very close to goal pace ran in 4:10 at a 8:20 min/mile pace.  This really encourages me to think that my goal mile time of 8:00 is not that far away.  I know this improvement seems quick, but keep in mind I actually started my running a couple of weeks before the Swingdown.

Weight loss for the week - 1lb
Total weight loss - 2lbs
Longest run - 3.75 miles

Exercise
Tuesday - ran 1.75 mi/walked 1.5 mi on treadmill/45 min
Wednesday - rode 10.5 mi on stationary bike at the gym/1 hour 
Thursday - 3.75 mi on elliptical/1 hour
Saturday - 1.5 mi sprints/1.5 walking/1 hour

Tuesday was a pretty tough workout because I skipped Sunday and Monday.  I have got to quit doing that!  Our gym just got all new equipment with televisions on each individual apparatus, so Thursday, I watched ER while I did my workout!  Saturday Mr. G ran me to death!!!

Now let’s check and see how the rest of you did……..   OK, so no one has decided to join us yet.  We are all alone on this journey so far.  Greg and Sheryl over at Greg and Sheryl’s Interracial Blog did write a post about the Swingfest Swingdown 2008 and updated their readers about their New Years fitness progress, but as of now Mrs. G and I are the only official participants of the Swingdown.

So come join on and join us!  We will be the ones at the track in spandex pants and t-shirts that say “We Run to F*ck”……just kidding
