The Orgy Myth – This Ain’t Your Daddy’s Lifestyle

Roman SculptureWell in the spirit of the controversy Swingtown has raised over at CBS, I thought today would be a good time to address one of the largest misconceptions regarding the Lifestyle.  While at first the misconception you may think I am speaking of is that all swingers have shag carpet in their houses and the men all have long mustaches, but I am going to leave that rumor alone and address the Orgy Myth associated with the Lifestyle.

As Mrs. Gentlenibbles and myself are thirty four and thirty three respectively, we were not around when the Lifestyle exploded back in the late Sixties and early Seventies.  We can only guess that yes, orgies may have been more common back then, but I am not sure that was as much a Lifestyle thing, but more a combination of the Lifestyle existing in the era of “free love”.

Swingers are hypersexual people, but it is important to understand for the most part they do not value sex any less than those in the vanilla world.  For that reason, it really is rare to find situations where a complete free for all is in place.  Even in the large group rooms of swing clubs and at house parties you may see lots of people having sex, but for the most part they are acting in groups of twos, threes, or fours as exhibitionists for the rest to watch while they are recovering from their own escapades.

Each one of those couples has probably had some sort of discussion about what was going to happen before they shed the threads and did some back dancing on the big pretty beds.  If another person or couple was to just jump right in without some kind of communication or invitation they would be greeted rather rudely and may even be asked to leave the club.  Just because a swinger is a swinger, does not mean that their body is any less their body and they still want to conrol it.

I can tell you that out of all the swingers we know, and we know quite a few, we don’t know any that have participated in an orgy.  We have personally never had any grouping larger than a foursome, at least at the same time. ;) For the most part Swingers rarely engage in groups larger than four, and if they do it is most likely still in numbers and circumstances way shy of qualifying as an all out orgy.

Now that I have said all that, orgies and gangbangs do exist and occur in the Lifestyle all the time.  There are couples, although a minority in number, who enjoy and prefer these types of situations.  The point of this aritcle is that ogies and gangbangs are a small part of the Lifestyle and don’t represent the majority of situations a newcomer would see when dipping their toes in the Lifestyle waters!  So if this image was one of the reasons who have been terrified to move forward with you Lifestyle desires, feel free to erase this one of the board and focus on what else may be bothering you.

If the chemistry among three couples were really good, or there were a single female or two floating around I could see us breaking that foursome barrier someday.  For numbers larger than that, I think Mrs. Gentlenibbles and I are probably a no-go!  Of course Swingfest is coming up and with over 5,000 couples who knows what stories we may have for you in August!

Swing hard and prosper!
~Mr. Gentlenibbles
