Silly Rabbit, Porn is NOT for College Kids
Yesterday, April 1st, 2009 the legislature for the state of Maryland conducted the very very important business of making sure that college students at the University of Maryland are not exposed to the evils of free pornography.
You see the University of Maryland, like several other colleges across the country, had taken advantage of the free movie donated by “Digital Playground” and scheduled a viewing on campus as they do routinely with many mainstream movies. The movie, Pirates II: Stagnetti’s Revenge, is a super-budget porn that with it’s 10 million dollar production cost is working to blur the lines between mainstream and pornographic. The movie, like it’s predecessor Pirates, even has an R-rated version that will be available at your local blockbuster.
Unfortunately this pirate ship has sank, at least on the University of Maryland campus as campus administrators caved to threats by the states legislature to cut their budget for next year should they choose to let this screening go forward.
I was introduced to this little controversy while channel surfing in my hotel room this evening when I turned to CNN Headline News program to see some numbnutz (Mike Galanos) going on a tirade on the evils of porn. Then in the midst of all this time warp conservative “sex is evil” speak came the calm and intelligent voice of Adella O’neal, the public relations director of Digital Playground. Adella was doing such a great job that Mike actually asked his producer to shut off her microphone!
Now I must admit when I first heard about a XXX screening on college campuses I was a little surprised, but as far as how the events are transpiring in Maryland I do have some opinions.
First
This was not a school sponsored viewing. It was a student led viewing by a group that regularly schedules movies on campus and they have never been censored before on any of their choices.Second
College students are all adults!!! These young people can be drafted, be executed by law for crimes they commit, and are considered adults by all legal means! Quit protecting them as though they are the junior high glee club.Third
If there was a movie being screened on the evils and dangers of sex with blatant promotion as abstinence being the way, the truth, and the light, I am positive the legislature would not be considering protecting our children from the dangers of this widely used scare tactic on our kids.Fourth
Are you F****** kidding me! What kind of precedent are we setting if our legislative bodies can start bullying our universities into conservative submission by threatening to take their budgets! You know…. on second thought. I say call their bluff Terps. Do you know how many of the votes cast for their present legislative offices came from University of Maryland alumni in their last election???Fifth
Porn on a big screen….. Cool!
I do see some good news here. The fact that some schools have and are screening this film on campus tells us that sex is becoming less “evil” in our society and that is a very good thing! What are your thoughts?
Join us in protesting the actions of the Legislature for the State of Maryland by having sex with the lights on tonight! …..ooooh dirty!
