Last week we unveiled the news of two of Houston’s own swinging community making the cut of top three choices being picked to play the central characters in an upcoming reality show on VH1! 

Now we are not only going to tell you who they are, but we are going to publish a blog entry from them to you, describing their journey! 

So without any further adieux….

Hey everyone!

My mind is racing so I felt the need to let it all out before I smack somebody LOL!

As many of you know, Stacy and I are pretty active in the swinging community. I used to be the spokes model of Radiance nightclub, we host and co-host parties at different Lifestyle Venues, and even used to manage a lifestyle club in the Galleria area. We’ve been together for 8 years and have been in the lifestyle for a little over 3. We decided from the very beginning that we would vow to only take ‘baby steps’ when it came to exploring everything the lifestyle has to offer. So far so good!

What started out as just watching everyone when we would attend parties, turned into girl-girl only, which progressed into soft swap, and finally full swap. Communication is so important when it comes to being part of this lifestyle so we make sure that we share ANYthing and EVERYthing with each other. We found that the more we were open and honest with each other and others, the happier our lives became.  If somebody asked if we were swingers, we said yes. No hesitation. This is who we are, and people can choose to deal with it or not deal with it…but it wasn’t bringing US down.

A few months ago we were talking to a friend on Instant Messenger who mentioned something they had seen on Gentle Nibbles’ website. She tells me it’s a casting call for doing a reality show on Swinging. She sends me the link and says “We can’t do it, but you guys would be perfect” and suggested we submit.  Of course, I’m sittin here like “HUH”?! and my brain races as I already start to see stars in my future. LOL. I turn to Stacy who’s layin next to me on the bed and read him the posting. I get to the part where it says:

“So do you, as a couple have the right swinging stuff, to represent the rest of us on national TV?  Are you in a position that your life can handle being outed on national television?”

…and it all sinks in. I’m like… WOW… that’s a pretty big decision. Having everyone in the WORLD know that we’re swingers. Hmm…

I turn back to Stacy.. and without more than about 4 seconds to think about it.. he’s all “I’m game”!

“You’re WHAT”?

Holy cow!

So I put about 10 seconds of my OWN thoughts out on the table and decide… “You know what, lets do it”!

So I open up my inbox and compose an email. Course, I have no clue what to say in it… so I start with some general info about who we are, and our experiences, ages, and include a few photos. A cute one, a sexy one, and a funny face one. I wanted to be sure that from the get-go we showed our true colors.

Well I click SEND and there we go. I just submitted a bio and photos to a network known around the world since January of 1985. (Yeah, I’m a research whore LOL). Let me just add mine to the other “ga-zillion” people who submitted, right?

Well about 2 days later I get a response. “Thanks for your submission, and someone will be calling you tomorrow.” was roughly what it said.

“Yeah..Suuure” I remember thinking.

Sure enough the next day at about 6pm I received a call from one of the VH1 producers. He explained how he was very excited to talk with us, and about the idea of swinging, and that he had tons more calls to make. We asked a lot of questions since we had almost a week to think about it…and he answered them very thorough. We were very concerned with what their “true” intentions were when it came down to filming us lifestylers. We know that every Reality Show has SOME form of Drama and Controversy, and we weren’t cool with being the couple they would choose to make us swingers look bad. Even though the main focus might be on US, we knew that WE would be the ones representing ALL swingers…and we weren’t going to do that unless it was shown in a good light. He explained that his main goal was to show the world that we’re just ‘normal’ people. We have jobs, kids, family BBQs, etc… but just party a little differently when the sun goes down . We agreed that as long as it was going to be done tastefully… we were in.

He said that they were going to be doing tons more phone interviews in the weeks to come, and that if we made it to the next step we would hear a call back in about 4-6 weeks.

At this point we still hadn’t told anyone anything… not even our closest and best friends. We were excited-yes, but we’re also realists. We didn’t want to get all excited over nothing when we knew they had hundreds more people to contact.

February came and we got yet another call from VH1..this time from the main producer. “We’d like to come meet you and your friends” she said, and told us that the network had chosen Stacy and I, and 2 other Houston couples. We were floored!! Of course, we HAD to know who else they chose out of all 500 couples in town who submitted! She rattled off the names… 1 couple who are good friends of ours, and another couple who we knew of, but had never actually met. She said they would be flying down and videotaping us all together in a week. Houston was the first stop of 9 or so other cities in the finals!

That night we emailed the couple that we hadn’t met and set up a dinner date for that night. We only had a few days before we would be on camera showing how we all interacted together and we didn’t even know these people! Lol! We met at a Sushi place (swingers heaven lol) and talked for hours getting to know each other and getting a ‘feel’ for their personalities. They were AWESOME!! Very much like us, fun, outgoing, crazy, and interesting! VH1 did a great job picking 6 people who were so much alike so we were pretty excited!

A week later we chose our house as the place to interview and in comes the producer and the sound guy. They started settin up cameras and lights in my living room… cords are all over the place… it was surreal. (I had to snap a pic heehe). We interviewed for about 4 or so hours on camera and answered all KINDS of questions about the lifestyle. From terms and definitions, to depths and styles and more. They left and we all felt like we did a great job! We were getting pretty excited having it actually SINK in now!

Back to the waiting game…

They left Houston to visit the other cities in the upcoming weeks…so the soonest we would hear anything back would be 8-12 weeks (bleh). Good thing was, they were going to tell us one way or another if we were choosen so we weren’t waiting forever.

Is the suspense killing you yet? LOL!

Last week after 5 months of interviews and waiting we received THE CALL!!!!

Houston is now in the TOP THREE with a VERY strong chance of being THE winner!!

Out of thousands of submissions all over the United States… down to about 50 couples in about 9 cities… down to just us couples in only THREE cities!! If Houston gets chosen, all 6 of us friends will be the cast of the show. SOOOO… it’s down to our group, a group in Austin, and a group in Chicago. They come back for the FINAL videotaped interview in 2-3 weeks.

We had to submit all of our information on each couple with all kinds of personal information to them this week, so we are scrambling to get ready! VH1 says that the best way that Houston can pretty much be ‘guaranteed’ to make it would be to have the largest amount of people on camera. They need all kinds of people that would be OK with being filmed in some of the episodes. Basically WE would be the ‘main’ cast… but when we go out, we would need to have OTHERS around to party with. This can be Vanilla OR Lifestylers. Just people who wouldn’t be afraid to be shown at a Swingers Club or Meet & Greet. They want as much material as they can get..and we want to prove to them what Houston has to offer!!

If they DO choose us/Houston.. they will follow us around day and night for nearly a year. Then it takes nearly a year for them to edit and create 13 episodes for the season. Best case scenario… we’d be on TV in 2 yrs. Betcha didn’t know it took THAT long to see your favorite Reality shows! If the first season gets good ratings, they’ll sign us for a 2nd and 3rd and 4th and… LOL!!!

Its definitely been a roller coaster ride with getting excited and then waiting on what may (or may not) be a call back… but this is finally the last stop. We want to thank GentleNibbles for being the ones who got us this far by posting the casting on their great site and for being so much  help throughout this journey!! And to the couple who sent us that I.M. in the very beginning! (It’s a secret but we love them *wink). We’ll definitely keep you guys posted so wish us luck!
