A Open Letter to the Media – Our Response to Austin Radio

ToddAndDonPodcast-001As many of you are aware, the Lifestyle and Gentlenibbles.com received a bit of negative attention from a couple of morning show radio hosts in Austin, Texas yesterday.  While they were not completely derogatory they did make several statements that we took slight offense too.  So being the writers that we are, we decided to let our pens fly and worded a response that we then emailed to the hosts and radio station involved.

Will they every see it?  Will they ever read it? Does anyone even listen to their show?  Does it matter?

Who knows, but it was a fun activity so we commenced.  Please see our letter below and pay attention for the surprise at the end.

Mr. Todd Jeffries and Don Pryor,

Hello my wife and I are the couple behind www.gentlenibbles.com , the party barge, and the hotel takeover you referred to on your show on Thursday May 13th.

We were unaware of your broadcast so we did not get the opportunity to air our opinion.  We thought you may at least want the opportunity to hear from us and we knew we wanted the opportunity to allow you to hear from us.

We really do not take offense with your broadcast and are adequately aware of the controversy our activities and parties may cause.  We accept the fact that some people may take offense, but we did want to make you aware that you have grossly misunderstood what this function will be like.

First, the only thing we do take offense to is “hot, sweaty…fat and sagging.”  My friend this is not your daddy’s Lifestyle, it is nothing like the Ron Jeremy meets Roseanne Barr stereotype you have typecast it to be.  Were you aware that the average demographic of a “swinger” these days is a couple between the ages of 30-35, of above average income, and a keener interest in fitness than the reciprocal group in the vanilla population.  I can tell you for sure that Mrs. Gentlenibbles is a complete hottie and I would be willing to wager that you gentleman would agree should you ever be fortunate enough to meet her.  I do want to be clear that in the Lifestyle we have all types and I consider that to be a good thing.  Nobody likes exclusivity in their ranks except maybe the Mormons, Southern Baptists, and a few other houses of worship.

Second, the party is not the orgy you are making it out to be.  Once again the curse of seventies porn makes all assume swingers do nothing but mass orgies in dark rooms with shag carpet.  Parties in the Lifestyle  for the most part exist somewhere on the debauchery spectrum between a really good frat party and a strip club.  The party in July will be more of a social event that oozes sexy and erotic vibes.  The nudity will be contained to Hippie Hollow and there will be no rampant “sex on the lake”.  I can assure you even if a couple of freaks decided to put on a show, Austin’s finest will nip that in the bud!

Lastly, I invite you guys to put on your investigative hats and take one for the team.  Mrs. Gentlenibbles and I would like to offer you the opportunity to broadcast your show live from our barge on the water in the middle of the party.  See for yourselves whether it is just the “fat and sagging” or maybe a little more impressive than you thought.  You should be prepared to see a few boobies, several asses, and yes unfortunately the rare phallic appearance. Although most of those phallic glimpses you so fear will come from the resident gay Austin population that actively recreates at Hippie Hollow 365 days a year.  This is just one day of the year they have to share it with us.

Yes you may see a few chubby and bald people, but lets face it you both see that every morning getting ready in the mirror. Ok, so that was tacky, but lets consider it even for calling my wife fat and sagging!

If you are interested, and I hope that you are, in taking me up on my offer we would be happy to give you access to do your show on the barge with no stipulations other than no camera’s.  Furthermore, I would be happy to set up a chance for you to interview several couples of all ages and types to give your listeners a unbiased opinion of who all these freaks coming in July really are.

Sincerely,

Mr. and Mrs. Gentlenibbles

(disclaimer – While yes, Mrs. Gentlenibbles is a complete freaking hottie - there may be a small kernal of truth in Mr. Gentlnibbles being slightly chubby)

If you want listen to the show, select the Thursday May, 13th episode from the list here.

Very Interesting letter there brother, Ballsy and Ingenious.

While I think it’s a Great idea to invite these two gentlemen to the party to…”set the record straight”, I’m not sure I agree with your defensiveness and wording regarding the physical appearance of swingers. As the newly appointed face of the swinging community in the Austin area, this letter seems to make us all out to be …”vain”.

I agree that Mrs GN is EXTREMELY HOT and I certainly do not agree with the show hosts voicing their assumptions about the swinging demographic. However, I would have preferred that you had taken the higher road in this letter. If these guys have the testicular fortitude to show up to this event then I wish cameras were allowed so that I could see their jaws hit the floor. If they don’t attend then their opinion really doesn’t matter does it?

In either case we SINCERELY wish we could join you. Maybe Next Year ;)

  2. Cardz,

Thanks for the feedback and after reading your comment, I do see the appearance of vanity. Although thinking my wife is hot should be understood and I cancel it out by admitting I’m chubby! ;)

It brings up a good point though…. Is it better to trade the image of old, fat, sweaty, shag carpeted endeavors for sexy but vain people…. probably not!

    Mr.G –

I don’t live in your area, but subscribe to your e-mail notices and visit your site regularly. I am writing this with full respect and appreciation for you and what you do. That said, I must admit that if I were wanting to attend this function, the invitation to the media would give me immediate second thoughts. While I understand and appreciate your intentions, I would not be at all comfortable with the possible implications.

My privacy and the discretion that is expected in the lifestyle are very important to me and my wife. My concern would be that this invitation to the radio personalities, along with their inevitable promotional broadcasts on the radio program and (presumably) their broadcast during the event, may result in other media and/or other curious onlookers showing with increased numbers, possibly with their own telephoto lenses. Perhaps I’m paranoid, and perhaps my fears are unfounded, but I fear that it could end up being a media circus and cause more “public relations” issues.

We participate in what is often referred to as a “secret society.” With all due respect, I would prefer it would stay that way.

  5. Susie,

We have already corresponded with NautiRave about the incident and shown them the email. Let us know if you need something beyond that. P.S. you did’nt leave any contact info. Feel free to email us at thenibblers@gentlenibbles.com

  6. Mike,

You make a very valid point and we have thought about that.

Here is our thinking. There is a church group behind much of what is taking place so far. They are going to do whatever they can to bring any media attention they can to the event. That and the fact the event is so big there will be no local news agency that is not aware of it’s occurence in July.

By getting a non-image related media outleft involved atleast we would hopefully have the chance to counter any negative attention thrown our way.

Most likely it does not matter anyway as I am quite sure our invitation will not be accepted. But we do absolutely understand and appreciate your feedback.

    Mr. G

Mr Nibbles – while you fend off the media foolishness – you can rest assured Mrs Carebeck & I will take very good care of Mrs Nibbles ;-) —- with that said – I hope this does not end up being a media circus – You have stated your point well and correctly – Mrs Carebeck is also a hottie and I challenge them to compare Lifestylers with Vanilla by visual appearance only – not gonna happen. Thank again J&A – hope to see you two soon!!! C & B

    Mr Nibbles
As you know mr golfer and I live in the Austin area and this particular radio station show is mostly for the shall we say “older crowd” of Austin.
We too learned of the radio comments from some other local swingers last week. We were a bit shocked that BBB was drawing attention from the “older” folk that actually perform this show.
This also made us a bit nervous. We as most, DO NOT want the media (local or other) to televise anything about BBB as then the privacy in which most of us attend these type of events has gone out the window. There are folks from all over that attend the annual BBB party and if others start to feel threatened by lack of privacy then BBB will become a thing of the past.
As most of you know Austin has Hippy Hollow and the news media for the most part stays clear of stories regarding our beloved nude “swimming and sunning hole”
And by the way the two old farts that do this radio show are exactly that….old farts…out of shape and not good looking…lol

    See everyone at BBB!!!

  9. WhiteSites says:

The BBB has been growing every year. Since Sex sells eventually the media is sure to start focusing on the event. The media will paint the picture they think their viewers want to see. This could be good or bad. If they show the barge with all the hot couples, it would be good for the lifestyle. If they show the barge with all the Ugly couples it will just reinforce the 70s stereotype. There are after all several barges with different groups promoting each. Until the Mass media starts to portray the Lifestyle in a more postive mysterious sexy confident light, the vanilla world will always stereotype the lifestyle. It would take a ton of reality TV shows to get the image changed.
